Key relationships become major contributing factors to our overall well-being. We even use them as measurements of our self-worth, even. However, sometimes people are simply no longer compatible, regardless of whether their connection is platonic or romantic.
Occasionally, you let this boil over into unhealthy territory. You cling onto this connection because you decide that the time you spent together is more important than the internal turmoil it is causing.
The Hanged Man suggests that it is time to release this connection to the Universe so you can make room for something that is more aligned with you.
You have spent so much time focusing on this toxic connection that you have forgotten what really matters to you. Thankfully, it’s not too late to redirect your attention to other things that are more fulfilling.
Actively work on shifting your focus so you are giving this stale connection less of your energy, though it’s tempting to remain comfortably stagnant like the Hanged Man as he stands in suspense, with his foot lightly balanced on top of the world’s tree.
One of the most important aspects of the Hanged Man is that he looks completely relaxed. He only focuses on things that are best for him and the general collective.
Once you shift your mindset, you can realize that the damage this connection was doing to you simply wasn’t worth it. No amount of time spent with somebody is worth getting treated poorly. If you have known them for 1, 5, or even 25 years, it doesn’t matter. The facts of life are that they are treating you badly now. People change, sometimes for the worst, and you can’t let yourself get caught up in anyone else’s mess!
You can release your expectations, as well as the need for control, over to the Universe at any time. Doing so will make it easier for you to disconnect from this problematic person.
The Hanged Man has accepted his fate, allowing the Universe to take over completely. It’s not necessarily comfortable for him–though he looks relaxed, he is still suspended from a tree by only his foot. Plus, we know that Death is the card after the Hanged Man in the deck, insinuating that this sacrifice was a large one, and that was probably difficult for him to do.
The most comfortable option is usually the one that hinders your growth, anyway. The Hanged Man also represents stagnancy and stillness; it’s more uncomfortable to stay put than to move forward, even if you’re pushed out of your comfort zone by cutting out a core connection.
Your intuition is strong, and it’s important that you follow it right now. Odds are that you knew that it was time for this situation to end a long time ago. But as the Universe sends you the quiet stillness of the Hanged Man, it’s now impossible to ignore.
You can release expectations while still clinging onto your perceived fate, while your actual fate is playing out in front of your eyes. If you accept your fate, severing this tie will feel significantly less painful. Still, it will hurt, so give yourself the space to heal from it.
The Hanged Man never said his job was easy; in fact, most people don’t understand why the Hanged Man chooses the things he does. He doesn’t care, though–instead, he does what’s best for himself and those around him without paying attention to (most) outside criticisms.
