TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE
Sunday, 29 December 2024
It's okay to want good things in life, but not if it puts too much pressure on you and leads to temptation.
Having desires are natural to your human emotions. You desire to have your own house or drive your car. You want to land a promising job or have a family of your own. There is nothing wrong with wanting more for yourself or your family.
As your ultimate Provider, I want to bless the desires of your heart. But heed My warning, if your desire is taken into the wrong perspective it becomes dangerous. Always check and align the desires of your heart to My will and it shall be safe.
Wanting More
Technology and social media have opened opportunities to connect with people in different places all over the world. However, one of its downsides is that it breeds a strong yearning for the things that other people possess. People will begin to despise those who have what they want and that can lead them down a dark path. This is where the danger starts.
Elisha’s servant named Gehazi was in a good position since he was a student of a highly favored prophet. He had the privilege to be under the supervision of a great man during their time.
But his desire turned into greed that made him misused his authority. He went after the man named Naaman who was healed from his leprosy to obtain the gifts that Elisha already refused. Gehazi wanted it for himself out of his wanting to get more. He loses the great opportunity to be a great man like Elisha.
This is one of the reasons why I asked you not to covet your “neighbor’s house” because it will lead to destruction eventually. Instead of investing and growing what you already have, you are more focused on getting what others possess. Do not let the desire of wanting more for your self pressure you and make you fall into sin.
If you see yourself having this kind of heart, be aggressive in bringing them over to Me so I can bring you to the right perspective and motivation. It is My job to bless you according to the purpose I have designed for you and your task is to obey Me and follow My leading.
Take Inventory
I understand that there are times when it is hard for you to control your desire to want the things other people have. The best way that you can redirect your desire is to count your blessings everyday and cultivate the attitude of being grateful with what you have.
Lust for any material things or physical desire brings trouble and nothing but trouble. When you continue to go down that path, some of you will lose their footing in the faith completely that will leave them to a regretful and bitter life.
When you understand that all gifts comes from Me are good and perfect, you will learn to be contented and grateful. Size, brand, appearance, weight, nor height will no longer matter to you when you fully appreciate the Source of your blessings than the blessing itself.
Reflect on these words today
And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
— Luke 12:15
But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.
— 1 Timothy 6:6-7
